tna robag® Quantum becomes the first VFFS packaging solution to win gold at the Good Design Awards® 2026
October 30, 2026
Sydney, Australia, 30 October 2026 – The tna robag® Quantum has been recognised with the prestigious Good Design Award® Gold, making history as the first vertical form fill seal (VFFS) packaging solution to receive this honour.
Endorsed by the World Design Organization (WDO), the Awards, set the benchmark for excellence in design and innovation, celebrating the most groundbreaking projects from around the world.
This award in the Product Design Commercial and Industrial category reflects how the tna robag® platform has once again, set new standards for the food manufacturing industry.
The Awards’ Jury commented, “The Jury commends the tna robag® Quantum for its meaningful shift in high-speed packaging machinery, moving from manual, operator-dependent systems toward fully automated, outcome-led operation. The self-configuring setup and throughput of up to 300 bags per minute demonstrate genuine ambition to elevate industrial equipment beyond conventional engineering practice.
The Jury recognises the focus on simplifying operation through automation while maintaining high performance, delivering meaningful improvements in usability and efficiency. Particular note was made of the operator-proof interface, which enhances safety, increases production and reduces waste. The design team is congratulated on this significant platform evolution that addresses current manufacturing challenges with clarity and purpose.”
The Quantum excelled across the award’s three core evaluation criteria: Good Design (design quality, form, function, safety, sustainability, and quality of manufacturing), Design Innovation (novel concepts, creative problem-solving and unique approaches that set new benchmarks), and Design Impact (measurable positive benefits and tangible difference for users, business performance, society and the environment).
Darren Alchin, Product Development Manager – Packaging at TNA and engineering lead for the project said, “Every generation of the tna robag® has continually redefined what’s next in food packaging, and the Quantum is the next evolution of that legacy. This is a proud milestone for our entire team and recognition of the innovation, expertise and passion that brought it to life.”
Since Alf & Nadia Taylor founded TNA Solutions in 1982, the robag® platform, designed by Alf himself, has always been synonymous with performance, speed, reliability, and simplicity.
Engineered for the future of food manufacturing, the Quantum empowers manufacturers to increase output, protect margins and navigate rising operating costs, labour constraints and growing production complexity.
Other notable gold winners in the Good Design Awards® this year include the Cadillac VISTIQ, the BMW iX3 Neue Klasse, Samsung Music Studio 5 & 7, and The Digital Crew AI platform for aeromedical flight technicians.
