a picture of pack expoThis year’s Pack Expo has been a resounding success for tna. With attendance topping 2012 by 6.5 per cent, the atmosphere was electric – we were humbled by the number of visitors who took the time to explore our stand and chat to our team of experts, who were kept busy throughout all four days. A real stand-out for us was how many visitors were looking for solutions to simplify their operations and move towards a single source supplier.

Visitors were particularly interested in tna’s recent acquisition of FOODesign and our start-to-finish solutions approach. By incorporating these innovative food processing applications into our already wide range of turnkey equipment, we can now offer manufacturers greater choice than ever before.
Read on to discover exactly what tna had to offer at this year’s Pack Expo and some of the leading trends that cropped up. We know you’re intrigued…

Ergonomics in action

One of the key themes at Pack Expo was ergonomic design. As systems become more complex and involved, it is important to demonstrate an ergonomic approach to ensure user-friendliness when offering total system solutions. At tna, we place people at the heart of engineering innovation, and our ergonomic design seeks to optimise comfort, functionality and ease-of-operation. In showcasing this concept, our team of experts demonstrated the full range of functionality of our flexible product range, including the tna robag® FX 3ci and the new tna hyper-detect® 5, which is easily accessible as part of the tna robag. In line with customer demand, we have stripped out the complexity from the user experience and exhibited how the machines can be made easier, safer and more efficient to use, while focusing on system flexibility to meet manufacturers’ needs.

More than just packaging

Manufacturers consistently seek ways to simplify their processes. With ongoing consolidation within the packaging and processing industries, and a strong desire from manufacturers to work with a single supplier, all elements of the production line must work together seamlessly. Together with our new acquisition FOODesign, who made its American trade show debut at Pack Expo beneath the tna umbrella, we showcased our ability to offer a total solution. Featuring the technologically advanced cryo-jet® 5 fast cooling system on stand, we demonstrated how FOODesign completes our range of services, offering a start-to-finish customisable solution in the packaging and processing operation. tna’s controls and integration technology was also on show at Pack Expo, including programmable logic controllers (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), to support seamless integration and improved performance. We are, therefore, helping the packaging and processing industry to make better and more informed buying decisions on integrating a total system solution.

Sustainability in mind

As sustainability is pushed to the forefront, industry leaders continue to seek a greener approach and focus is now being placed on lightweight, compact packaging that preserves scarce materials. As the global population increases, so too does consumption. Sustainability of packaging is therefore even more important than before and businesses must implement greener operations to keep pace with regulations. Moreover, we’re now seeing businesses moving towards more specialist trends, such as the drive to prevent food waste. For many years, packaging was thought of as unsustainable, yet now with innovations such as single packs and re-sealable packaging, the industry is in the vanguard of the drive to keep food fresher for longer and provide solutions to this very real problem.
